First Shots (sponsored by the National Shooting Sports
Foundation, NSSF) for all beginning shooters.
In 2020, it is estimated that 6.5 million Americans purchased their
first firearm. The first half of 2021 was also record setting for firearms sales in the United States. In
recognition of these facts, NSSF started the First Shots program to help
the new shooters get started in the sports that we enjoy. This
program is open to men and women and our program consists of three
segments: SAFETY first and foremost, Shooting Techniques and Range
Ettiquite.
Hudson Rod, Gun, and Archery Club offers this class on one Sunday
afternoon per month. Registration and payment is handled by
EventBrite. There is a charge of $50.00 plus a $4.67 processing
fee. Students receive a firearm safety booklet and a shooting
diary, safety glasses and ear protection, a target, limited ammuntion
and instruction. After class, if the student completes a brief
survey from NSSF they will receive an electronic $25.00 gift card sent
to their phone which can be used at the club for anything the club sells
or they can apply it toward a club
membership.

NRA Women on Target
I
highly recommend the Women on Target class to any woman that has always
wanted to try shooting as a sport but found their spouse or significant
other was not the most patient teacher. This is designed for beginners to help them
get started on the basics in a safe environment. Women are the
fastest growing segment in the shooting sports.
Also the most enthusiastic segment. It's very fun to watch the
transformations that happen as they develop the skills and gain
confidence in such a short period of time.
I love this program!!
This
program was not offered in 2020 or 2021 due to Covid. The program
will resume in the spring of 2022. If you know ladies that may be
interested, please have them send me an email and I will notify them
when the plans and dates are announced.
